UFOs, Meteors & Chinese Lanterns

Oh Boy, It's 12/12/12 and everyone's talking about the end of the world on 12/21/12. And now there's news of UFO sightings on both coasts of the country the last few days. I personally see 12/21/12 as some form of mythical earthly renewal, if anything. But here are shots of the UFO sightings:

First one in Brooklyn NY:

Second one in San Francisco, CA:

Usually these sightings are spun as 'Chinese Lanterns', which has been proven before. The only way I would discount this as that, is if they hover to form a shape. I don't distinctly see that in either video.

Also, these past few days including tomorrow is to be one of the year's greatest meteor shower, known as the Geminids. Can this be part of the reason?

Oh conspiracies, how I love'em! sometimes...

Rothman's Back & Pomona

I know Mayor Rothman is not liked by many in the Pomona world, and he has thus once again become Mayor. I'm always hearing about 'Mayor Moochie' and his selfish runarounds in Pomona's businesses, taking credit for other's work or how he does evil things to people he doesn't like. I've met him many times and personally, he's been nice to me and always shakes my hand and tells me hello. I've talked to him about city stuff and he speaks well with me. I stay neutral on the subject more or less, but it's hard to when residents and businesses have so many complaints.

We all know Phillips Ranch and North Pomona are the deciding voters in all our elections (besides district ones). Yet, they voted for him again. Why? The rest of Pomona if they are serious enough, needs to get their residents out to vote if you don't like him. I don't want to hear about complaints, do something! Put the word out instead of speaking to your own audience.

But besides those who voted for him, the biggest problem was having that Ursua guy run. He stole potential votes that Freddie Rodriguez would've had to possibly beat Rothman. It's kind of the Ross Perot or Ralph Nader effect. Was it on purpose? Let the conspiracy theorists begin!

I was hoping for a Freddie Rodriguez win, although I know he's been in the council for quite some time. He had some fresh ideas and the energy to move Pomona forward. Out here in District 4 I didn't see much support in the form of signs or volunteers, really. I think he could've made a bigger push to get out here.

I am also happy for Paula Lantz returning once again to District 4. She is so quick to respond to any neighborhood issues I've had in the past. I also enjoy the fact that she is a council with no self-interest for trying to be Mayor or the next higher level as so many have in the past and present. I am not fond of people who use Pomona as a stepping stone to propel themselves forward (take a guess who). Congrats on Debra Martin for taking District 6, it needed a new voice and I know it was the toughest district fight. Also, congrats to Mr. Nolte for the win in District 1. I am curious to see what changes he will bring to the city and his district. It was an overwhelming win for him, I guess people there weren't happy with Danielle Soto.

We had 5 measures for Pomona, (T U V W X) and I got 2 out of the 5. No on Measure T and Yes on Measure X. Regarding Measure X, I've always used the Claremont Library since it's up the street from me, but that's pretty sad that Pomona with it's size cannot have a library. For the price of less than 1 cup of Starbucks a month, we can keep the library open for our kids to learn. Yes, I know the city's at fault for messing it all up, but it's my part to help. Apparently, it has to have 2/3 of the vote, so I'm guessing it didn't pass? Measure T is just silly, again, leaving 2 areas of Pomona to decide who represents each District for the rest of us is just not right. I do get it when there's districts who have very little turnout and keep the same councilperson in the there for years and years when someone new is needed.

Anyways, this is my pointless little write up about our local elections with tons of typos and things that possibly don't make sense.

Collapse Of The American Dream

This is a great animation that explains our whole banking system which runs everything! It isn't partisan but I think it does a great job explaining how it works to most people. It's simplified and I strongly recommend every American to watch it. Enjoy...

Why Concert Tickets Sellout In Seconds

Ever wonder why concert tickets sell out in seconds? Now we know. An investigative report by Phil Williams in Nashville uncovered the ticket manifest (the document showing where all the tickets went) to an upcoming Justin Bieber concert. The manifest showed that of 14,000 available seats in Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena, only 1,001 (7%) were actually available to fans like you. Here’s where the rest went:

Nice Long Hiatus

I just realized that I've been away from the blog for quite some time. Not that anything relevant or significant is posted around here anyway. As you know, summers are so busy for me, all the kids are home and then come the vacations, practices and school registrations. And that's the parental responsibility side only. There's also the grown up fun part, such as parties, BBQs, concerts, events, and other trips. I decided to make time to post about absolutely nothing... which is normal.

It's pretty crazy to have 2 kids in 2 different school districts (Claremont and Bonita Unified), but I manage to get it done. They're pretty close by schools, so it is kind of nice. And they are performing well academically, so it's a plus for me. The sports family donations, fundraisers, are a little hectic, but it's a small price to pay... along with their expensive lunches on our limited budget. But still, although times are very tough for us economically, I am still grateful that we are financially quite well above the median (on paper) income around here... even though that doesn't help much as we also have a kid in College at Santa Cruz. We have our health, a roof over our heads and daddy picks great stocks! LOL

I have so many things to rant about lately, that I don't even know where to start. Our country is so screwed, jobs are scarce still and things aren't quiet turning around at all. Don't worry, I'm not that stupid to blame Obama like alot of nitwits, I know the House and Senate are purposely blocking pretty much all his proposals in order to get him to fail... they know the American Sheeple are dumb enough to believe it was Obama's fault. And by achieving this, they can continue the destruction and raping or our country that Bush Jr. got steamrolling. I'm no Democrat either... just can see things realistically, not talking points wise. But enough of that.

On a local level, I am not to happy with the City of Pomona's waste transfer station opening up soon, what a gaff that was. Most certainly not happy with the stupid parking meter situation in the Downtown/Arts Colony of Pomona. I already know people who paid for their space, only to still come find a $58 ticket on their window. It's pretty sad, because Claremont's wonderful free parking has actually led me to to frequent their Downtown more than ever. I am also not happy about the Pomona Library's gutting and destruction by the city. And very close to home literally, also not happy about a pawn shop coming next door to In & Out on Indian Hill. How scary is that? Doesn't Holt Avenue have enough of these? Lately, there's been more of the 'Holt Hoes/Prosties' walking from the little motels in Claremont by the 10 up and down the street
, let's add a pawn shop to the element, why not?

On a good note, a friend in the Montclair Police department has told me there are plans for an 'Americana' style area coming to that big empty lot near Target, you know, Monte Vista and Moreno Avenues. Word is a 'YardHouse' will also be in the development, along with other cool and hip places (How about a HOOTERS?)... and as a beer snob, I am VERY EXCITED. This would be better than the shitty Victoria Gardens in Fontana, what a mess that place is.

Anyways, I'll be back soon and I am still around, that is, for those 2 of you who were curious. Take care and do whatever the hell you do!

2 New Paintings In 2 Weeks

I decided to finally paint these 2 wooden panels I've had in my garage for probably around 2 years. I realized I need some nice art in my home, but art that I've created, not bought. I am very happy with the result, certainly not intensively difficult creations, but nevertheless a step in the right direction. I am thinking of doing a nature scene on canvas for my next project, or perhaps another wood panel.

Both are on 2x2 foot birch wood panels, painted right on with acrylics. The first one does consist of cherry wood stain as well on the exposed wood. Here they are with their names:

"BERNAL DIAZ DEL CASTILLO"

"EL BANDIDO"

A Rant On New Warning On DVDs & Other

Nowadays, many people enjoy watching movies by either downloading them, watching them on their computers, pay-per-view, or cable/satellite TV. This is pretty normal, I do it myself as well. But I also enjoy having movies on DVDs, it's like a library of books for me. I am an avid DVD buyer, especially used ones at whatever Blockbusters we have left (La Verne and Montclair are now both closed, Upland is the last around here). It's always nice to pour a glass of wine, look at my collection, slip in a DVD, dim the lights and hit the surround sound on a lazy Friday night.

Do you remember how we have to see the non-skipping FBI warning with every movie? Well, it's about to get longer and more tedious for new DVDs. Welcome the new obnoxious anti-piracy warnings. Just more bullshit to have to sit through. It's ridiculous and stupid, even if I'm used to the old FBI warning.

Here's what really pisses me off, IT IS PRETTY MUCH NON-EXISTENT in downloadable movies!!! That's where I'd stick the ad, since it is already DIGITAL CONTENT! Are they trying to kill the DVD industry, which is already slowly dying? Simply stupid.

I support and enjoy DVDs/Blu-Ray movies, even though people are just simply doing the NETFLIX thing. The DVD industry is a gigantic employer of many companies and people who go through the whole process of designing, creating and packaging the whole thing for you to have at home. One thing I am happy about, is many big movie companies like Sony are limiting to what NetFlix can have in their inventory, thus, keeping it exclusive to DVD/Blu-Ray, even if for a bit. They know how much money is made through the physical product. Alot of regular NetFlix subscribers I know are telling me this.

That's a good thing. Now if this same industry can reasonably price new releases, it should be a good thing, even if for only a little longer. I am the last generation of people who like to 'collect' stuff. The 20-something and under are all just about fully digitial idiots. I am a semi-digital idiot, that nostalgic feel keeps me collecting!

UFO Sighting In L.A. On Wilshire

Interesting...

A photographer, hearing a rumor that a UFO would appear over Los Angeles on Sunday, seems to have filmed an unidentified flying object just as predicted by the gathering crowd. What is it?

In this strange video, YouTuber envisionMagic, is shown filming a group of eager onlookers on Wilshire Boulevard in downtown Los Angeles. Somehow he was made aware that something strange would appear in the sky which was not any known aircraft. As the hours pass by from mid-morning to early afternoon, something actually does show up overhead.

It appears to be of the silver orb variety being increasingly spotted all over the world. Two objects look stacked upon each other, with the lower one changing color and shape and looking as if it is falling out the bottom of the top orb.

It's not a bird or a balloon and it's not like any plane, jet or helicopter. The crowd looks on in wonder as the UFO moves away slowly through the sky.
So, what is it?

Here's the video. The unidentified object shows up at around the 3:00 mark. But watching the nearly five minute video from the beginning sets the strange event in its proper context.

This compilation is interesting as well, as it is a compilation of UFO's seen worldwide... for the month of APRIL 2012!

Metro Pomona Domain Change

Metro Pomona's website is currently under 'moving' staus. The official Metro Pomona website is changing it's domain name from METROPOMONA.COM to DOWNTOWNPOMONA.ORG. So it looks like it's going back to it's roots, where it originally had 'downtown pomona' in the domain name. See I told ya! J/K. Why not keep them both? Can't be that expensive, just redirect.

Claremont's Auto Center & Indian Hill... Mess.

Well, not really a mess. I am certainly excited all this new business is coming to this dormant shopping area. We lost Chili's, Hollywood Video, Albertsons and other stores a few years back. Now we've added American (Norms), Chinese, Mediterranean, and Grilled food, along with the great SUPER KING Market. On that note, I say I LOVE Super King! It is the place for super-Veggie deals and meats. Not a bad selection of wine either.

On that note, Super King is a shopping cart traffic nightmare, it is too small and there are just too many people there ALL THE TIME. The sense of 'excuse me' and 'pardon me' seem to disappear when you're there by most people(I guess because saying it 100 times gets old). I even tried going on that Wednesday morning a week or two ago when it rained to see if the crowd lessened, nope, same thing. I've also been to the Altadena one, and the same situation ensued... Little parking and plenty of flying get-outta-da-way shoppers.

Now there's word of a Chase Bank with a Drive-thru coming our way. Great idea! I bank with those evil bastards and get tired of driving through slow downtown Claremont all the time. There's also a Martial Arts studio coming to the center.

Here's the biggest issue, that G'damn INDIAN HILL with a traffic light every 20 feet! From San Bernardino Avenue in Pomona to San Jose Avenue in Claremont, this street is jammed everyday North and South. The worst hours are from 7:00am to 9:00am, and 2:00pm to 6:00pm weekdays.

I hope the City of Claremont has something in the works for this insane traffic congestion that has begun and will get worse. And while you're at it, Claremont, can you allow a GAMESTOP to be added here?

The Stone Lady

Try creating this with random little river rocks in your garden. I have a feeling there's some Photoshopping done here, but even then, it is quite possible with just the right rocks. As for the face, well, I'd say a little painting would do.

Six-Minute Drive Through Uptown L.A. Circa 1940s

I love this amazing video of A Drive Through Bunker Hill and Downtown Los Angeles, ca. 1940s. Unfortunately, there is no sound, but it is simply amazing to see an actual LIVE Los Angeles through this video recording. Look at those cool buildings and apartments, the cars, the people walking by.

Enjoy...

Pink Slime Nuggets Rejected, Ok'd By Schools

"Pink slime -- that ammonia-treated meat in a bright Pepto-bismol shade -- may have been rejected by fast food joints like McDonald's, Taco Bell and Burger King, but is being brought in by the tons for the nation's school lunch program.

Custer and microbiologist Gerald Zernstein concluded in a study that the trimmings are a "high risk product," but Zernstein tells The Daily that "scientists in D.C. were pressured to approve this stuff with minimal safety approval" under President George H.W. Bush's administration."

Oh, thank you George W. for the massive deregulations on so many things set in place under your administration, and made very difficult to re-regulate. Bastards.

How can we feed our kids this crap? It's bad enough the recent GOP-pushed Congress decided to make the pasta sauce on pizza and a french fry a vegetable, but now this cancerous crap that even disgusting fast food won't take (probably because of the exposure leaked recently)?

My son's school district isn't accepting this crap, they have the 'Chef' style cafeteria where the Chefs cook in a more nutritious way. But my daughter's school might possibly accept it, but luckily I'm transferring her out after this school year.

Guns'N'Roses @Hollywood Palladium

I got a last minute chance to see Guns 'N' Roses perform in Hollywood this past Friday March 9, 2012. The most recent concert I've seen here at the Palladium would have been Morrissey, some couple of years ago. I think he was the last performer before the shutdown for a remodel. Anyways, this was an interesting concert to say the least. We lined up, and right before we went in, decided to have a few drinks across the street at The Well. Why? They told us some bands would be performing til around 10:30pm or so, and it was just past 9pm. After a few drinks and feeling fuzzy, we headed back over and got in quickly. The final cover band was still playing, don't have a clue as to who or what, but it was a weird mix off death metal, heavy metal, traditional rock and Maroon 5 (LOL).

Anyways, to make a long story short... G'N'R did not show up until AFTER MIDNIGHT! But I have to say, Axel Rose certianly still has it. He was spot on with all the music. All the music sounded great. I was also told that the only original WAS Axel Rose. Regardless, the band played awesome. The young wanna-be Slash was very cool on the guitars, even smiling when we were flipping him off! But it was a good flipping off too, as we bobbed our heads to 'Sweet Child Of Mine'.

This last part I could not believe, we all felt very tired so I decided to look at my watch (yeah, I still wear one). It was 3:50AM! What the hell? Who in their right mind plays so late? There were people sitting and sleeping along the halls and walls all along the inside of the Palladium. We waited til about 4am, thinking that was the last song, but NO, another one came on. We couldn't take it... I wonder when did it actually finish? My goodness.

I managed a few VERY crappy snaps from my cheap Samsung Intensity old ass phone:

In the end, not too bad a show. Even Charlie Sheen was there enjoying himself (Paparazzi, F*ck off and leave him alone). But I think the $100+ tickets were just a tad bit too much, not to mention $14 beers! (The large cup that is).

For those who don't, here's a printable HANDY-DANDY MAP of Pomona's ArtWalk Galleries.

You'll probably find me @Joey's BBQ or Acerogami Bar at the end of the night... possibly DBA256 winebar if it's not a DJ/HipHop night. See ya'll there!

Gas Prices & Fox News

It's amazing how Fox News is blaming Obama for the high gas prices. Now I'm assuming most of you are somewhat smart, so I know you're aware Fox News is nothing but a mouthpiece for the super rich extreme right and mega corporations. But these clips during 2008, the W. Bush years, about the same time as now, they are saying the president has no control over gas prices, it's a market thing, it's other causes and are even trying to help you learn to conserve energy. LOL

Flash forward to now, it's Obama's fault.

We can find millions of things this fake news network brings, but this one is kinda funny since we're all feeling the pain...

Covina's 1st ArtWalk Coming In April!

Now blogging for approximately 3 years, representing the eastside of Downtown Los Angeles county all the way to Mills/Claremont Ave (County Line) and of course, other strange places when possible (LOL), I am always excited when anything Art and Community happens to any local town! So you know how happy I am to hear about Covina joining in the Art game now and am proud to let ya'll know about this (if you haven't heard).

Good'ol City of Covina will be hosting an ArtWalk once a month, similar to Pomona's 2nd Saturday, but this time it will be every 1st Saturday of the month! It will all begin on APRIL 7th, 2012 3pm-7pm. The appropriate name is the CITRUS ARTWALK, so be sure to check it out. Now we have 2 major local ArtWalks in a month, and if you throw in Claremont's 1st Friday, it truly is 3! This is an awesome way to begin every month of the year. I'm so excited, as these are all close to me off the 10 freeway!

To find out more, you can visit them on Facebook.com/CitrusArtWalk

On a personal note and rant: Pomona, seriously, you still want to start charging for parking when you're not even halfway to a 'Pasadena'? I don't care if it's just $1-2, you're scaring away art lovers, good people, and are going to be left with the club goers and nothing else (local businesses that aren't 'clubs' will suffer even more). I'd wait another year minimally before approaching the topic again. Now other cities 'Old Towns' are picking up on ArtWalks... even La Puente experimented with an 'ArtWalk' last week. Pomona, I suggest you not let the 'parking fees' being floated around the VPD and City Council make your art crowd go away to nearby towns this early. I get you, I do, but just not yet. Hopefully this 'parking fee' isn't official yet... but according to my buds over at M-M-M-My Pomona, it looks like a mostly done deal, awaiting final City Council decision, which if approved, can begin as early as April 1.

Pomona PD Joins L.A. Regional Crime Stoppers

Just saw this in my inbox...

I am pleased to announce that the Pomona Police Department has joined other LA County law enforcement agencies and have partnered with Los Angeles Regional CRIME STOPPERS.

Please take a moment to visit the site lacrimestoppers.org to get an idea of all of the resources that are now available to not only our community, but our investigators as well.

LA Crime Stoppers allows the community to provide crime tips via: Text Message, Web, Telephone, or a free iPhone & Android app.

Tips received will be processed internally in a manner that is similar to WeTip. Though we are now live with this modern system, we will keep our WeTip contract active for at least the remainder of this year in order to make a smooth transition for our community and the department. Sergeant Samuels deserves credit for his assistance in getting this program off the ground. The Crime Prevention unit will begin marketing the program and I will prepare a Media Release soon.

Another Cambria Weekend

(Click to enlarge this quick put together panoramic view)

I had the opportunity to enjoy another stay this weekend in Cambria (technically 2 weekends ago now). Oh my, what a lovely relaxing time. Cambria, Pines by the Sea! This was my view from the balcony the whole weekend!

Tried a locally made brew from San Luis Obispo called TAP IT IPA. Man, this stuff was DELICIOUS, with bits of hops floating in it.

This one rivals Stone's IPA. (Yes, it was that good)

Wait, here's a better view best enjoyed:

Went into the downtown WEST and EAST and enjoyed a great brunch at Linn's Cafe. Their Cambria Quesadilla is awesome, I recommend. Didn't take any pictures there, as I normally forget because I want to enjoy myself.

I did manage a snap of nothing special in downtown, I think my daughter was messing with my camera.

Plus, this place cracked us up... we keep saying 'I bet she did!'

And here are some shots of the coolness about being in Cambria, those darn Monterey Pines/Cypresses and the ocean.

Yes! "and I ran, I ran so far away..." - A Flock of Seagulls
(no clue who those people are below)

Check out this mini-hut we ran into on our morning walk

And there ya have it. A mini update on my Cambria weekend. I'm hoping to go another time or two this year. I just love this little town! It's about a 4 hour drive from out here for those who have never been there. You can take the 101 all the way, or cut through like I do on the 5 to Paso Robles... yes, the WINE Paso Robles country to pick up a few bottles on the way!
